The Namahage sedo Festival is held for three days from the second Friday of February at Shinzan Shrine in Oga City, Akita Prefecture Japan. It is a winter festival in Akita where holy fire are lit in the precincts and namahage dances and namahage drums are performed. At the climax of the festival, the namahage of Oga holding a torch descends and parades through the precincts of Shinzan Shrine, which is the venue visited by tourists. “Visiting God: Gods of masks and costume” including Oga’s Namahage event was registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in November 2018.
