The Kakunodate Samurai Residence in Senboku City, Akita Prefecture Tohoku Japan and the row of cherry trees on the bank of the Hinokinai River are famous for the cherry blossoms with beautiful weeping cherry trees hanging from the blackboard fence. The Samurai residences built by the vassals of Ashina and Satake are lined with Samurai residences, and the Samurai residences in Kakunodate are called Michinoku little Kyoto. Here, weeping cherry trees brought in from Kyoto, where Yoshichika Satake’s birthplace is located, bloom in this area. The Hinokinai River, which flows to the west of the samurai residence, is also famous as a cherry blossom spot where some Yoshino cherry trees bloom, and it is also famous for its magnificent scenery of about 400 cherry trees lined for 2 km. These two places have been selected as one of Japan’s 100 most famous cherry blossom spots, and tourists come from all over Japan in spring.
