Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge Lit Up & Fireworks Festival
A commemorative fireworks display was launched on March 1, before the opening of the Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge, which is scheduled for March 6, 2021, to commemorate the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and to thank them for their reconstruction.
At 7:00 pm, the main tower and bridge girder were lit up with white light, and the Niagara fireworks installed under the bridge and about 400 fireworks to the music of the radio were launched.
Of the Sanriku Expressway that connects the eastern Sendai Road to Miyako City, Iwate Prefecture, the section from Kesennuma Port IC to Karakuwa Peninsula IC, which was an unopened section, will open on March 6, 2021. Of the Sanriku Expressway, Kesennuma Road has adopted a route that crosses Kesennuma Bay from the perspective of shortening the distance and reducing construction costs. The 1344-meter-long viaduct over the bay was named Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge (Kanae Ohashi), and construction was underway. The route that used to have to detour around the complicated Kesennuma Bay will be shortened at once with the completion of the Kesennuma Bay Crossing Bridge.
