Sendai Airport before the Great East Japan Earthquake and planes taking off and landing
東日本大震災前の仙台空港の風景 Plane Spotting at Sendai Airport Before Tohoku Earthquake & Tsunami 飛行機離着陸
This is a video of the scenery and planes taking off and landing at Sendai Airport, which straddles Natori City and Iwanuma City in Miyagi Prefecture, taken in March 2010. The airport is known for having suffered extensive damage from the tsunami caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake, but until then, as it is located on the coast, it was an airport where visitors could enjoy the view of the surrounding windbreak forests. Today, there is no trace of this scenery, the voices of children have disappeared from the park opposite the passenger terminal, and construction work to raise the ground to protect people’s lives from tsunamis is underway. After all, it is inevitable that tangible things will be lost to natural disasters or calamities when humans and nature coexist. I felt that it is also important to leave a record of this for the future.
